The story of Fernando Alonso
Fernando Alonso, from Oviedo in Spain, is a two-time World Champion and one of the most complete drivers ever to race in Formula 1. He debuted with Minardi in 2001 and won back-to-back titles with Renault in 2005 and 2006, ending Ferrari’s and Michael Schumacher’s dominance.
His career has spanned the sport’s biggest names: a turbulent 2007 at McLaren alongside rookie Hamilton, a return to Renault, five seasons with Ferrari that yielded three championship near-misses, and a difficult McLaren-Honda spell. He then stepped away to win the Le Mans 24 Hours twice and the World Endurance Championship, and to chase the Indianapolis 500 and Dakar Rally, before returning to F1 with Alpine in 2021.
Since joining Aston Martin in 2023 he has rolled back the years, scoring a flurry of podiums. In 2026, still the grid’s most experienced driver, he leads the team into its new era with Honda power and Adrian Newey’s design influence.
