The story of Lando Norris
Born in Bristol in November 1999, Lando Norris climbed the single-seater ladder at unusual speed. He won the 2016 Formula Renault Eurocup, starred in FIA Formula 3, and finished runner-up in the 2018 FIA Formula 2 championship with Carlin. A McLaren junior throughout those years, he was promoted to the works Formula 1 team for 2019 at just nineteen, partnering Carlos Sainz.
Norris quickly established himself as one of the grid’s sharpest qualifiers and a relentless points-scorer. His first podium came at the 2020 Austrian Grand Prix and a maiden pole position followed in Russia in 2021. As McLaren rebuilt itself into a front-running outfit under Andrea Stella, the breakthrough arrived: his first Grand Prix victory at the 2024 Miami Grand Prix, and a season-long fight at the front against Max Verstappen.
In 2025 he turned that momentum into the world title, edging Verstappen by two points to become World Champion, and he carries the number 1 on his McLaren in 2026. Remarkably, every kilometre of his Formula 1 career has been driven for a single team — a continuity almost unheard of in the modern paddock.
