The story of Oscar Piastri
Oscar Piastri, born in Melbourne in 2001, produced one of the most dominant junior records of his generation: he won the Formula Renault Eurocup in 2019, the FIA Formula 3 Championship in 2020 and the FIA Formula 2 Championship in 2021 — three titles in three years, each at the first attempt.
A member of the Alpine academy, he spent 2022 as the team’s reserve. A contract dispute followed, with Alpine announcing him for a race seat before Piastri publicly declined; the Contract Recognition Board ruled in McLaren’s favour and he joined the Woking team for 2023. He took his maiden win at the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix and quickly became a genuine title threat.
In 2025 he won seven races and led the championship for much of the year before finishing third, narrowly behind team-mate Norris. He continues at McLaren in 2026 as one of the favourites for the crown.
